AUSTRALIA RED CROSS & PACIFIC PARTNERS UNITE IN SAMOA
Friday 29th September, 2023 Apia, Samoa— Australia Red Cross, in collaboration with its Pacific Partnership, convened a meeting in Apia, Samoa, bringing together leaders from various Pacific Red Cross Societies. The purpose of this high-level gathering was to initiate discussions and lay the foundation for the upcoming phase of the Australia Red Cross’ International Program.
As the current 5-year program approaches its conclusion in December 2024, Australia Red Cross is embarking on the next phase by launching the program’s design process. This momentous occasion served as an opportunity for dialogue among the participating National Societies, charting the course for their collective future.
The meeting, marked by productive discussions and collaborative efforts, further solidified the already robust partnership between Australia Red Cross and its Pacific counterparts. Secretary Generals representing Samoa, Tuvalu, Palau, Tonga, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji were all in attendance, demonstrating the shared commitment to humanitarian causes and regional cooperation.
Australia Red Cross envisions the upcoming program phase to maintain its focus on fostering strategic partnerships throughout the Asia Pacific region, while also extending its global reach for humanitarian response and key initiatives. The active involvement and shared values of all partners will play a pivotal role in shaping the design of this innovative program.
Fiji Red Cross Society Director General Ragigia Dawai, expressed satisfaction with the success of this meeting, highlighting the productive dialogue and collaborative spirit that prevailed throughout the event.
