FIRST AID TRAINING IN ROTUMA

As a First Aid instructor, my work frequently leads me to diverse communities across Fiji, each with its own unique character and needs. On this particular occasion, I had the privilege of visiting the beautiful island of Rotuma. Our recent endeavour here involved the re-establishment of our Branch, and the First Aid training I provided was just the beginning of a series of training and awareness initiatives designed to benefit both the Branch itself and the local communities it serves.

Our journey commenced with certified training sessions, which were attended by our dedicated Branch executives and volunteers. These individuals play a pivotal role in ensuring that First Aid knowledge and skills are disseminated effectively throughout the community.

Following these internal training sessions, we organized a public training session that brought together a diverse group of stakeholders and community members. It was heartening to witness the enthusiastic participation of organizations like the Police, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services(MOHMS), and Airports Fiji Ltd. Their involvement in our water safety awareness activities underscored the importance of our mission, emphasizing that First Aid extends beyond the immediate community and is a collective responsibility.

In a remarkable display of community spirit, our Branch members took it upon themselves to clean and prepare the warehouse space, demonstrating their dedication to our cause and the betterment of their own environment.

Rotuma is indeed a place of exceptional natural beauty, but its remote location makes it imperative that the people of Rotuma are equipped with essential First Aid skills. In such isolated settings, timely response to emergencies can make all the difference.

I departed Rotuma with a profound sense of satisfaction, knowing that we had empowered the people of this island with life-saving skills. I am confident that these skills will be put to good use when the need arises, ensuring a safer and more resilient Rotuma community. I eagerly look forward to my return, ready to continue our vital work of enhancing First Aid preparedness in this beautiful and remote corner of Fiji.
