FRCS Activates Restoring Family Links Service to Support Families Impacted by Vanuatu Earthquak
In the wake of the devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck Vanuatu, the Fiji Red Cross Society (FRCS) has activated its Restoring Family Links (RFL) service to support people in Fiji who are struggling to reach their loved ones in Vanuatu.
The earthquake, which caused widespread disruption to communication lines and infrastructure, has left many families in uncertainty, unable to confirm the safety and wellbeing of their relatives. In solidarity with the Vanuatu Red Cross Society and the people of Vanuatu,
FRCS is stepping forward to provide essential humanitarian support through its RFL service, reaffirming the strength of regional partnership and resilience in times of crisis.
FRCS Director General, Ragigia Dawai, said, “Our hearts go out to the people of Vanuatu during this difficult time. As neighbours and partners in the Pacific, we stand ready to assist families here in Fiji who are seeking to reconnect with loved ones. Our Restoring Family Links service exists to bridge that painful gap when communications are cut off, and to offer hope and comfort to those affected.”
Restoring Family Links is an international humanitarian service facilitated by the Red Cross Movement, designed to reconnect families separated by disasters, crises, or other emergencies. Through the RFL service, Fiji Red Cross Society can assist individuals by:
• Initiating inquiries to locate missing family members in Vanuatu.
• Providing updates or messages to families when communication lines are restored.
• Offering emotional support and guidance throughout the process.
FRCS teams are working closely with the Vanuatu Red Cross Society and international partners to ensure families receive timely support and critical updates.
Individuals in Fiji who are experiencing difficulties in reaching loved ones in Vanuatu are encouraged to contact the Fiji Red Cross Society via:

FRCS also urges the public to share this information widely so that those in need can access the service as quickly as possible.
“In moments like these, our sense of solidarity and humanity shines brightest,” Ragigia Dawai added. “We are proud to work alongside the Vanuatu Red Cross Society to support families, rebuild connections, and foster resilience as communities recover.”
