Nacanieli Tavisoro Finds His Calling
Nacanieli Tavisoro, fondly known as Naca, never imagined he would become a First Aid instructor, but life had other plans for him. His journey from a quiet childhood in Nailaga, Ba, to a key role within the Fiji Red Cross Society truly shows someone’s determination to embrace opportunity and grow in life.
Growing up in the rural village of Nailaga, Naca enjoyed the simple pleasures. “I loved swimming in the river, climbing mango trees, and just relaxing,” he recalls. “Life was peaceful, but even then, I carried a dream of becoming a primary school teacher. Helping others learn was always important to me.”
Life took a turn when Naca lost his father, a soldier, at a young age. Raised by his mother and siblings, he found support and encouragement within his family. “My family always pushed me to follow my heart, and I’m grateful for that,” he says.
Naca’s involvement with the Fiji Red Cross Society began as a volunteer at the Ba Branch. His dedication and passion saw him steadily rise through the ranks, eventually becoming an Executive at the branch. Eager to continue developing his skills, Naca returned to school to complete his Training of Trainers (TOT) certification. This opened the door to his current role as a First Aid trainer.
“I’ve been on both sides of First Aid training—first as a learner, and now as a trainer,” Naca says. “Teaching people life-saving skills is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about the knowledge; it’s about empowering individuals to make a real difference when it matters most.”
In addition to his work with the Red Cross, Naca maintains an active and healthy lifestyle, participating in various sports. “Taking care of yourself is just as important as helping others,” he says, reflecting his commitment to a balanced life.
Nacanieli Tavisoro’s story is one of dedication, family support, and the importance of First Aid training. His work with the Fiji Red Cross Society is not only shaping his own future but also equipping communities with the vital skills needed to save lives.
