NATIONAL DISASTER AWARENESS WEEK 2023 BEGINS

During the National Disaster Awareness Week academic session held at the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat, there were engaging discussions that deeply impacted the Fiji Red Cross Society. It was heartening to see our partners not only recognize but also celebrate the dedicated efforts of Civil Society groups and Non-Governmental Organizations in the vital field of Disaster, Crises, and Emergencies.

This session served as a learning experience, providing invaluable insights into the intricate legal framework governing Disaster Response. Exploring the roles of key entities such as the NDMO and the National Disaster Management Council, and understanding the diverse layers from National to Sub-National, Divisional, and beyond, was both enlightening and empowering.

“This gathering reinforced the commitment of the Fiji Red Cross Society, motivating us to continue our dedicated work in the field of disaster management and response. We are steadfast in our support for the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) within the humanitarian space, driven by our shared mission: to save lives. This commitment was reaffirmed during today’s academic session.”

Recognizing the significance of this session, we acknowledge the essential nature of comprehending the diverse roles each partner plays at various levels in disaster preparedness and response. This profound understanding is absolutely crucial. It acts as a tool to preventing miscommunication and potential conflicts. It fosters a unified approach that enables us to respond with unparalleled effectiveness as a united country.

By fully grasping the intricacies of our respective roles, we are arming ourselves with the knowledge necessary to collaborate seamlessly. This unity in purpose and action fortifies our collective ability to confront challenges, mitigate disasters, and, most importantly, save lives. As we move forward, what we learn from this academic session will serve as the foundation upon which we construct a safer, more resilient future for our nation.

We are honored to welcome our Sister Societies from across the Pacific to participate in the entire National Disaster Awareness Week. We eagerly anticipate the insights and knowledge that the upcoming engaging sessions will bring.

We extend our best wishes to all our partners, and we express our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated team at the National Disaster Management Office for their unwavering commitment and exceptional effort in organizing this great event.
