Job Description
POSITION:  Health & Care Coordinator REPORTS TO:  Manager Programs
LOCATION: National Office, Suva

 

INTRODUCTION:
The Fiji Red Cross Society (FRCS) is the largest local humanitarian organisation in Fiji committed to quality service delivery to the most vulnerable. The organisation is part of the Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement which has 192 member countries.The Government of Fiji recognises the Society as a voluntary relief organisation and is auxiliary to Government. It has 16 branches throughout the country with Divisional Centres in the West, North and Central/Eastern Divisions supported by the National Office based in Suva.Fiji Red Cross Society has the largest community-based volunteer system in Fiji.
ROLE PURPOSE:

The Health and Care Coordinator will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing health and care projects, including community health programs, first aid and emergency response, and psychosocial support activities. This role requires strong leadership, coordination, and project management skills, as well as a deep understanding of health and care issues in Fiji.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Plan, implement and manage community health programs, including health promotion, disease prevention, and health education initiatives. Coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and other organizations, to ensure effective implementation of health programs. Monitor and evaluate the impact of health programs and make recommendations for improvement.

·        Develop, manage and coordinate new and existing national activities and functions of the various Community Outreach Programs to enhance the auxiliary role to public authorities, principally with the Ministry of Health. That all offer relationships with other NGO’s and international agencies will be guided by the FRCS auxiliary role.

·        Develop and implement psychosocial support programs for vulnerable populations, including disaster-affected communities, migrants, and other vulnerable groups. Coordinate with trained volunteers and other stakeholders to provide psychosocial support services, including counselling, emotional support, and referrals to relevant services.

·        Collaborate with relevant NGOs and international organisations in pushing the health & care, socio–economic frontiers to manage vulnerabilities and enhance the resilience of communities in sustainable ways.

·        Prepare and be accountable for an annual development plan, with specific objectives and indicators.

·        Develop the Community Outreach Programmes including SOPs.

·        In consultation, facilitate the delivery of FRCS Community Outreach Programmes and revenue-generating and/or contracted programmes by monitoring and evaluating results achieved in its implementation.

·        In consultation, prepare all health-related programme/project donor reports and acquittals.

·        In consultation, prepare programme/project funding applications.

·        In consultation, facilitate the work of consultants, advisors and experts and establish and maintain collaborative relationships.

·        Maintain and strengthen strategic alliances with key partners and stakeholders by representing the Society on relevant Committees and Councils.

·        Monitor section activities on a monthly basis and submit progress reports, two weeks before each scheduled board meeting.

·        Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and respond effectively to emergencies.

·        Oversee and provide relevant training and health education activities to ensure effective service delivery.

·        Perform other related duties as assigned by the line manager.

·        Ability to travel and work in remote areas as needed.

Position Requirements

Education   Required Preferred
A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Care, Social Work or similar. x
Master in Public Health, Nursing, Health Care and Social work or similar. x
Experience   Required  Preferred
At least 5 years of experience in health and care programs, including first aid, health promotion, and psychosocial support, preferably in a leadership or coordination role and is familiar with Fiji’s health systems, policies, and relevant stakeholders. x
Good understanding of the international humanitarian environment. x
Experience of working for the Red Cross Red Crescent. x
Knowledge and Skills Required  Preferred
Strong knowledge of health and care principles, including community health, first aid, and psychosocial support. x
Demonstrated understanding of gender and diversity. x
Experience dealing with sensitive topics and an appreciation for how these issues are dealt with in different cultural contexts. x
Proven experience in project management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. x
Training/facilitation skills. x
Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and healthcare providers. x
Self-supporting in computers (Windows, spreadsheets, word-processing) x
