Nitin Gandhi named as the Chair for Elections Commission for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
Geneva, Switzerland: 6 November 2024 – Fiji’s own Mr. Nitin Gandhi has been named Chair of the Elections Commission for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Mr. Gandhi’s appointment marks a significant step forward in his extensive career, which has spanned leadership in professional services, public service, and humanitarian work.
A respected figure within Fiji and internationally, Mr. Gandhi served as the Managing Partner at PwC Fiji, where he dedicated over 40 years, including 27 years as a partner. Recognized among a select global group of Chartered Accountants, he is a recipient of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) Fellowship. Mr. Gandhi also served as President of the Fiji Institute of Accountants, advocating for excellence and ethical standards in Fijian financial practices. He currently serves on the board for Fiji customs and revenue Authority.
Mr. Gandhi’s humanitarian involvement includes an impactful tenure as President of the Fiji Red Cross Society from 2009 to 2013. He also held a position on the IFRC’s governing body, where he contributed to Policy and Governance on a global scale. He currently serves as an Honorary member of Fiji Red Cross Society. Additionally, he has played an active role as an accredited mediator with the Fiji Mediation Centre, and as a former Assistant District Governor for Rotary International.
The IFRC Elections Commission is essential to IFRC operations, guiding the transparent and impartial elections process for the Federation’s Governing Board and recommending candidates for various commissions and committees. The Commission also oversees the list of nominees for the Youth Commission, contributing to the federation’s inclusive approach to leadership.
The IFRC is the world’s largest humanitarian network, serving 192 countries worldwide through the coordination of national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The organization is devoted to improving humanitarian conditions, disaster relief, and community health globally.
